Ruby Part 2

Hi,

I gone and did it again I left it ages to write anything. In my defence I have been massively busy making things and going (and guesting) to cons.
I haven't had to much time to myself but I did in this time finish a few projects one of them being Ruby.

So here are the last steps in finishing the cosplay.

A few days after I finished the cloak from the last post I started work on the waistcoat and skirt.

They were made with very easy patterns from simplicity check it out HERE (Cape pattern is HERE I don't think I linked it before)

The skirt is crushed velvet and the waist coat was actually green dress lining.

Then it sat like this for ages until I got off my bum and finished her.

I wasn't happy that the waistcoat wasn't patterned so I decided I would paint it.

Using metallic fabric paints I painted a few patterns and flowers on it so it was closer to the pattern in the show.

I then made the shirt using the same pattern as the waistcoat and skirt. I made this from Chiffon.

Last bits I needed to do were the hems shirt and skirt were straight forward normal hems but the waistcoat I used a silky green bias tape which I think worked really well.

Any way she is ready for this Sunday at Reading Comic Con.

Ruby The Start!!!

So with LFCC over and the post con blues well and truly in bedded in my mind, I have decided to start on my cosplays for MCM in October.

I am staring with Ruby from Once Up A Time. There are 2 others I have planned but I will post about those soon enough.

Enchanted Forest Ruby
I started with the most important part the cloak.

This the first time I have used this much fabric. It's safe to say there isn't enough space in my living room so I had to work outside which was nice in todays weather.

Got slightly windy pet food cans work well

After I had cut all the pieces I took them inside to work on with my brand new sewing machine. I have never had a sewing machine that is so smooth.

I followed the pattern which was really straight forward. There was only 6 pieces so you would think it would be. I sewed all the pieces together. I did the same with the lining. I usually lazy and don't line so this was a challenge but it worked out really well.

I then sewed the hood and hood lining together and added it to the main part of the cloak.

Lastly I hemmed it.

All in all it took about 4 hours which isn't too bad.

The finished product.

Next probably tomorrow I will work on the skirt.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my Ruby cloak and are looking forward to seeing the rest come together.

All the best your friendly neighbourhood Bendy Benz.

The London Film and Comic Con

Hi Folks,

So its that time of year again, CON SEASON!! So I have been tirelessly working at getting my cosplays finished for them.

I did Evie Frye for MCM Expo in May and Killer Quinn at Film and comic con Bright but these aren't the cons I want to speak about!
Killer Quinn with little Quinn

Evie Frye MCM May

I want to talk about the London Film and Comic Con. This is the first convention where I have done all 3 days and boy did I have a time.

I went last year although it was fun it was very crowded and very hot. This year they definitely learnt from last year.  They opened up more areas so there was more space in general. I never felt claustrophobic at any point which was a nice change from last year.

I was a little bit disappointed at the fact Ron Pearlman cancelled last minute but he had scheduling conflicts so it wasn't his fault, i did get my photo with Elden Henson who was a ruddy nice bloke.

The big the part of my weekend was the cosplay contests, I decided to enter the professional cosplay contests on Saturday and Sunday. I'm starting think this was a mistake as the calibre of cosplays play was insane. I didn't place but it was very fun and good experience to understand the process of prejudging. I will prepare a lot more, have lots of reference pictures for the judges and try not to bumble over my words.
Top Left: Hysteria Sunday, Bottom Left: Caeser Legionnaire  Saturday, Right: Haley Quinn Friday.

I will finish this post with all the photos I took of the amazing cosplayers.

Well I hope you enjoyed my long overdue post. I have 4 projects on the go so I will hope to post progress posts for these.

The Cheshire Cat Cosplay!!

Hello everyone,

I have nearly finished my Cheshire Cat cosplay. Here are my progress pictures.

I will start with the gesso progress. It took about 5 layers of gesso before I could paint it.

So while this was drying I made the dress to go underneath.

After it dried I used a heavy duty acrylic paint.

I don't have any pictures of the feet and ears in gesso but here they are painted.

I then did some detailing on the front.

Finally this the mock up of the face paint and ears....

So this is my progress let me know what you think.

Rogue From X-Men: The Animated Series

Hello all,

This is me trying to post more.

So while I was away I decided to cosplay Rogue. So this is what happened.

Firstly I used a pattern which makes life a whole lot easier.

So I started with the yellow part of the suit, when I started I had no idea how I was going to put the yellow and the green together. There was an option of an overlay but my straight stitch isn't great so I decided to make a separate green unitard cut out the parts needed and sew them together. It worked out really well.

It's not perfect but nothing I make is.

Next I made the shirt again I used a pattern.

This pattern was fairly easy. I did buy the patches there was no way I could make those with my current skill set.

Next was the boots, this was really hard and I went in blind. So I took an old pair of boots I had which where knee highs to make them thigh highs I glued some craft foam to the top. I then cut out some fabric out around my legs, I sewed the seams and glued them too the boot. I then sewed green strips on them and added zips and voila the boots where done.

Next was the belt, I made the buckle out of worbla and painted it with acrylics. Then added a strap that matched the shirt.

The wig was a bit difficult as I had to cut 2 wigs and sew them together and style it.

I used pin curls as curling tongs would burn the wig. It worked and the result was this.

I also made the head band just a simple sew job.

I will be properly cosplaying this at the London Film and Comic Con, but as I said in my previous post I trailed it out at my friends birthday party and here are a few photos from that night. Overall I am happy with the result.

I hope you enjoyed reading my post.
